Our History
Temple Transport Team (T3) was created in 2002 to provide rapid, reliable transportation for critically-ill patients using three state-of-the-art ground ambulances.
Twelve paramedics and nurses were selected from among the best and brightest the region had to offer. Three months of intensive education followed to build upon their 911, intensive care and emergency department experience and knowledge. The "plank holders" spent those months working in the intensive care units at Temple University Hospital being mentored by the experienced faculty from Temple University School of Medicine.
On December 15th, 2002, Temple Transport Team officially entered 24/7 service with one critical care team. Volume quickly grew and a second group of paramedics were hired to help provide care to the multitude of patients being transported. Over 3,500 patients were transported during the first year.
In 2005, the reach of the team had extended to Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Maryland. T3 increasingly relied on outside air medical and critical care ground providers to help bring patients to Temple.
The flight division began in 2006, partnering with other air medical providers in the area since. However, in 2013, as a result of continual growth in patient referrals from an ever expanding area surrounding our region, Temple Health and Temple Transport Team began an independent flight program, Temple MedFlight. The fully equipped EC-135 medical transport helicopter is based at Doylestown Hospital, in Bucks County. The primary focus of the air medical team is to travel anywhere within a 100-mile radius to deliver expert medical care from Temple Health to critically ill and injured patients who need it most. Aviation services are provided by Air Methods Corporation.
In August 2013, T3 enhanced its ability to safely transport bariatric patients by adding an ambulance equipped with the Stryker PowerPro system, as well as equipping all ambulances with Stryker XPS stretchers.
