Treating burns is only part of what the Temple Burn Center offers. Often, burn survivors require psychological or social support throughout their treatment journey. Temple’s team of psychologists and social workers work closely with patients and family members during and after treatment to provide the support they need.
Burn Survivor Support
Monthly Support Group
One of the primary sources of support is the Temple Burn Center’s monthly support group. It's held on the second Wednesday of every month. The group is moderated by a psychologist, and guest speakers are common. During the meetings, resources are shared on different topics pertaining to burn injury, wellness, self-care and skin care.
The support group is attended by burn survivors at all stages of recovery — from current patients who are still in the burn unit to those undergoing outpatient rehabilitation or who have fully recovered. This variety offers participants different perspectives on the recovery journey.
Support group members also gather to celebrate holidays together and offer each other support through the Philadelphia Burn Support Group on Facebook.

Individual Support Through Phoenix SOAR
Temple has joined with Phoenix Survivors Offering Assistance in Recovery (SOAR) to connect survivors with other survivors or loved ones who have experienced a similar trauma. In addition to our monthly support groups, SOAR offers an opportunity to join a community of survivors, loved ones, and burn professionals committed to empowering the burn community.
If you would like to be connected with a peer supporter, please contact the Burn Center.
